And so it begins!!!

So, for the past 2 months, Mitch and I have been trying to buy our "dream" house.  We had talked about building earlier in the year, but decided there are too many good deals out there right now to stress about building.  We thought that it was important that Brooks be in a neighborhood, with other kids, rather than being on acreage, "alone," which we weren't really alone, but it was about 60 acres that would separate us from other people.  So, we decided that finding a deal was better...well, we looked and looked and looked and FINALLY found a house that we loved...well, after 2 months of deliberating and realizing that we would lose money if the people redeemed their house, the house was a foreclosure and in Alabama, you have an ENTIRE YEAR to redeem your house, we walked away, however, this is probably the ABSOLUTE best thing that could have ever happened.

Mitch and I, we like to have room and by room, I mean land.  Land to hunt, for Mitch, and land to ride, for me! And land for exploration, for that boy!!!! And by building, we can have it ALL!!!! We are building on a 40 acre part of 120 acres that has been in Mitch's family for years, which that they used to farm turf grass.  We are so unbelievably excited about this, we can barely stand it!!! We met with the "over-see-er" of the project yesterday and first thing I asked, "how long is this thing going to take??" One of my faults...I want what I want, right then...yes, I know, not a great trait to have, but hey, you don't get anywhere in life waiting for things to fall into your lap...you have to MAKE them happen! He said we could be "hammering in nails in 6 months!" OMG!

Right now, the land is being farmed by local farmers with soybeans on the property and I am not sure if we have to wait until they are harvested or if we can go ahead and break ground on that section.  Anyways, it is a pretty low piece of property, only 36 feet above sea-level, so we are digging "Mitch's dream pond" and using that dirt to build up the building plot for the house and barn, yes i said it, BARN!!! I get my very own barn!! But back to Mitch's pond...he wants about a 2 acre pond that he and Brooks can go fishing on each evening.  I think he is going to try to put Bass and catfish in there.  Not sure though.  As far as my barn! I have decided on probably a 6 stall, that I can add on to later, but that leaves 1 stall for a pony for Brooks, a stall for my show horse when I decide to bring him down when he is ready in a few years and 4 stalls for future Broodmares and their babies.

Anyways, back to the house....We found our perfect house plans!

The 1-car garage will be Mitch's MAN CAVE and I know that the guest room will look exactly like the room below. I am obsessed with that room!!! The house will have a "rustic-country-lodge" type feel.  A lot of wood and bead board.
